Our wounds are often the openings into the best and most beautiful part of us. ― David Richo
I have been a licensed clinical social worker since 1999. When I graduated from college with a finance degree, I started working in banking, thinking that was going to be my career path. Everything changed when I experienced the loss of two close family members in one year, one of whom took her own life. Thankfully, I found an amazing therapist who helped me through that tough time.
Going through such a traumatic experience ignited a passion in me to help others avoid that kind of pain. I began volunteering at a suicide hotline, and I quickly realized that the 5-10 hours I spent helping people each week were so much more fulfilling than my full-time banking job. I began to lead support groups for people who have lost someone to suicide, something that I am still doing after 30 years.
My work as a volunteer, paired with my own experience in therapy, motivated me to become a therapist myself. I aspired to provide the same supportive care my therapist had given me. I earned a Master of Social Work (MSW) from New York University. Now, with over twenty-five years in the field, I’ve had the privilege of working with an immeasurable number of clients from all walks of life.
